No matter how you feel about Obama being elected President, no one can deny that history is being made today. Over 2 million are expected to be on the Mall today watching the historic event. I’ll stay in my warm office thank you, but that doesn’t mean I will be missing anything. Everything is scheduled to kick off at 10am, and you could pick any channel you wanted and I am sure they have coverage already. Being at work, I’ll be streaming online, so you can find those too if you dont have access to tv.

Bmore inks a six-year, $66.1M deal with Nick Markakis
My team has kept its best home grown talent since Cal Ripken at home by signing him to a six year, 66.1 million contract. This will keep Markakis an Oriole until at least 2014. There is a mutual option for ‘15, and a limited no trade clause to go with it. The deal will become official once Nick takes a physical which should be scheduled for Wednesday.
Interesting note. The deal was for 66.1 million…so the contract wouldn’t be a 6 year, 66 million dollar contract which would make it 6/66. Don’t want to have any bad mojo with that contract! Click below for more info:
Circuit City Closing Shop
Not surprising, but some big news if you follow the tech market. Circuit City has gotten approval to liquidate its remaining stores and shut down for good. Circuit City which has been open since the 1970s (formed by the founder of Montgomery Wards…did not know that), will be closing over the next several months. I have some fond memories buying CDs and car stereo equipment from CC during my youth. As Best Buy got bigger, and music went digital I visited CC less and less.
With the closure of Tweeter, Comp-USA, and other stores over the past year, Best Buy is really the last one standing. There are of course the online retailers, but there isn’t really a direct brick and mortar competitior to BB anymore. Usually lack of competition is a bad thing, but to be honest I cannot even remember the last time I bought electronics from a store outside of BB (excluding online purchases). If you would like to read a bit more on the closing of the CC stores click below:
Female Students @ VT Will Be Moving Into Pritchard Hall
Not many people will know what I am talking about, but for the first time ever next year female students will be living in Pritchard Hall on Virginia Tech’s campus. In what was the largest male-only dorm outside of the Naval Acadamy, Pritchard Hall has been a male-only haven since the building opened in 1969. Housing 1016 people, 400 of them will be females next year. For anyone that lived there, it was know for its smell, and bathrooms that weren’t the most pleasant. The school says they will need to perform some maintenance and renovations to get it girl-worthy.
It should be noted that the good news for the guys at VT is that the reason that women will be moving into Pritchard is because the ratio of incoming students which are female continues to increase. The ratio is quite close to 50/50, which can only be good news for the guys looking for “the one”. If you would like to read more click the link below:
