Well that didn’t take long. After interviewing a few internal candidates, the Ravens promoted their inside linebackers coach, Greg Mattison, to Defensive Coordinator. The spot was open once Rex Ryan was finally given a head coaching job with the Jets. I think this is a smart move. The defense is the biggest strength of the team, and I don’t think much good would have been done if someone from the outside were to come in and mix it up. Hopefully Rex’s success will carry over to Mattison…but I guess the proof will be in the pudding. Mattison is a Harbaugh hire, so he has only be around for a year, but he was quite successful in NCAA football, so hopefully he will continue to bring that Ravens dominance that they defense brings to the field.
