Death Usually Comes In 3’s. This Week It Is 4 – Billy Mays Passed Away This Weekend!

Filed under: Random — Bill @ 2:42 PM

The hits just keep on coming.  First Ed McMahon, then Farrah Fawcett, then Michael Jackson, and now Billy Mays.  The loud seller of commercial products un-expectantly passed away in his sleep Saturday night.  He was only 50 years old…the same age as Michael Jackson.  They usually say death comes in threes, but this week 3 wasn’t good enough I guess.  Thank goodness tomorrow starts a new week.  Now with Billy gone, and Vince in a bunch of legal troubles, who will sell our trinkets on tv?

The Picture That Made Soda Come Out My Nose

Filed under: Fun — Bill @ 4:24 PM

For those that know me know that I find potty humor funny.  A good fart joke makes me laugh.  Even though you might not find potty humor funny, you’ll have to laugh at the faces the cat makes in the following picture. I got this pic off I Can Hav Chezebuger site. The pic had me rolling

El Nino Is Making A Return! Quick, Hide The Women And Children!

Filed under: Fun — Bill @ 9:07 AM

El Nino, the weather disturbance that causes abnormal weather patterns in the U.S. is making a return this summer.  The good news is that El Nino typically brings less tropical storms and hurricanes due to the warmer waters in the Pacific.  The bad news is that it usually brings more rainy days and heavier storms to the Southeast U.S. in the summer, fall, and winter.

So watch out because here comes El Nino!

Michael Jackson Passes Away @ Age 50

Filed under: Media — Bill @ 7:17 AM

I am sure most people have heard by now, but in shocking news Michael Jackson passed away at his home yesterday from cardiac arrest at the age of 50.   Though I wasn’t around for the beginnings of his career with the Jackson 5 (I did own a Jackson 5 record though!) I was around for when he went out his own, and essentially I grew up with his music.  I remember his music videos coming out on MTV (yeah they played videos back then), and how original his music was.   I know he had some strange behavior later in his career, but most people will remember him as the young adult that taught the world how to moonwalk, and made wearing one glove fashionable (for a few years at least).  He sold over 750 million records in his time, and will forever be at the top of the list of most renown artists ever.  The LA Times has a decent article about his passing, and how people are reacting.  Click the link below:

FTC To Monitor Blogs For Failure To Disclose Conflicts of Interest

Filed under: Business, Technology — Bill @ 6:48 AM

When I get ready to make a purchase of something that I haven’t bought before I usually scour the web for reviews of the product. I usually start with Amazon, but I also look for blogs that review the product to try and get a personal review.  What I didn’t know at first, and what many other people might not know is that some of the blogs out there will put positive reviews of a product on their blog in hopes of getting money from the vendor selling the product.  I realized this first hand when we were looking to buy an elliptical machine for our home last year.  There was a “home gym review blog” out there that gave glowing reviews of products that in actuality were crap, but since he made money on his reviews, and if someone bought the product through a link on his site he put a glowing report on his blog.  Well the FTC has decided that they have had enough and coming this summer the FTC will release new guidelines that will allow the FTC to go after bloggers that do not disclose that they are getting kickbacks from the vendor.  I think it’s a good idea since the reader will have a better idea if a blogger review is an honest review, or just a way to get a buck.

FYI-Since I don’t have money to buy things, and comanies don’t send me stuff to try out for free, I promise I do not have a conflict in any of my blog posts :)

Hate When Billy Mays Screams At You During Commercials?? Help Might Be On The Way

Filed under: Media — Bill @ 6:39 AM

There is nothing more I can’t stand than when I am watching TV, a commercial comes on and it’s 5000% louder than what the show’s volume is.  I either have to scramble for the mute button, or fast forward fast through the dvr’ed commercial break.  Drives me batty.  Well it also drives a Congresswoman from California crazy too, and she is presenting a proposal to the FCC to curb the volume.  Right now a commercial can be as loud as the loudest part of the show you are watching.  That way they can get your attention.  Well if her proposal goes through the commercial will not be allowed to be louder than the average volume of the show.  No word on its chances of success, but at least I am not the only one that gets driven nuts by Billy Mays screaming “GET SOME OXYCLEAN!!”  If you would like to read more about it click the link below:

Yes, A Goat Made That Sound…

Filed under: Fun — Bill @ 10:02 AM

There has been a new show on Comedy Central called Tosh.O.  It’s kinda like Web Junk, but a little different.  The point of the show is to make humor out of the viral videos out there.  This week they had this gem on there, which had me rolling on the floor laughing…and I thought I would share it with you.  Yes that is a goat making that sound:

A&E Cancels “The Beast”

Filed under: Media — Bill @ 7:06 AM

I know that most people won’t be familiar with the show due to the low ratings, but the show that featured Patrick Swayze as a FBI agent was cancelled by A&E yesterday.  I was just really starting to get into it near the end, and then they kill the show.  They ended the first season in a way that didn’t leave you hanging…perhaps knowing that the show wouldn’t make it, or that Patrick who is battling Pancreatic cancer would not be able to continue, but still a disappointment none the less.

Grind My Gears – No More Freaking Rain!!

Filed under: Grinds My Gears, NRV — Bill @ 6:45 AM

Look I understand we need rain, we’ve been in a drought for years, and we really needed to catch up. Mountain Lake was no longer a lake, or a pond, or a bird bath, it was nothing.  With all the rain we’ve gotten it’s back up to 29 feet….since March…

We had 10 inches of rain, just last month breaking all time records…we are on target for the same this month….enough is enough!  It seems for like the past 3 months we’ve had one sunny day to 6 rainy days.  I’ve spoken with a local contractor about building a boat…I’ve already got two goats with me that want on.

This is not Seattle, this is the New River Valley….but I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference by looking outside!  Give me a rain break please!
